Wandering Villager
Talk a Wandering Trader into settling down as a real villager.

Overview
Picture this: you've found a village. It's 900 blocks away, across a ravine, through a swamp, and you've decided that today is the day you bring a librarian home. Four hours later you have built a minecart line of genuine engineering ambition, and your librarian has clipped through the rail, wandered into a hole, and drowned. You have no librarian. You have a very nice rail line to nowhere.
Or maybe you play on Peaceful, in which case the game's other route to a villager — curing a zombie villager — simply doesn't exist for you, because zombie villagers don't spawn. The economy is behind a door you were never given a key to.
Meanwhile, the Wandering Trader. Turns up unannounced. Two llamas in tow. Stands in your doorway. Sells you a bucket of tropical fish. Vanishes forty minutes later having contributed nothing to your life. He is, structurally, a villager who has simply refused to commit.
Wandering Villager gives you the means to change his mind. Craft a Settlement Contract from paper, an ink sac and a gold ingot, then use it on any Wandering Trader. He'll stop, consider his life choices, and over the next thirty seconds settle down — slowing to a halt in a cloud of green particles, to the same sound the golden apple makes when you cure a zombie villager. Then he's a villager. A real one, permanently.
He arrives unemployed, so the profession is entirely your call — drop a job site block in front of him and he'll take it up. His skin matches whatever biome you convinced him in, so a desert conversion gives you a desert villager. And his two llamas, suddenly unemployed themselves, are set loose as ordinary llamas for you to keep.
One catch, and it's the point: the conversion takes thirty seconds and it isn't instant or safe. If the trader dies before he's finished settling in, the contract dies with him. Bring a shield, stand between him and anything with teeth, and see him through it.

Changelog
-
v1.1.0 Latest
The effects update.
New
- Custom particle effects for the whole conversion:
- the contract flies from your hand into the trader, with a gold flash and ring;
- a spiral of sparkles turns from trader blue to emerald as he settles;
- a heartbeat ring at his feet quickens over the last ten seconds, chiming over the last five;
- sparkles rush in just before the change, and the villager arrives in a burst of emeralds.
- Freed llamas get a puff of their own and the sound of the lead snapping.
- Actionbar messages when a conversion starts, when it finishes, and if it's lost.
- If the trader dies mid-conversion, you now see and hear it fizzle out, and you're told the contract is lost.
- Name-tagged traders keep their name as villagers.
- The vanilla cure sounds play at the end: the zombie villager's cure, then the new villager's happy "hmm".
Fixed
- A villager standing nearby, a baby born mid-conversion or a freshly cured villager could sometimes be taken for the new villager and have its skin and face re-rolled instead.
- Killing a converting trader could re-skin a villager that later wandered over the spot.
- Only the trader's own llamas are freed now. Before, any trader llama within 10 blocks was, including a second caravan passing by.
- Freed llamas sometimes came out as babies.
- Switching hotbar slot at the moment you used the contract started the conversion without using it up.
- After a world reload, a conversion that was in progress now picks up its timing where it left off.
- The minimum game version is now 1.26.30, which is the first version that supports the add-on's script.
Changed
- A settling trader slows down more (movement 0.1, was 0.2).
