Wandering Villager

Wandering Villager

Getting your first villager means either laying a mile of minecart track through a ravine, or curing a zombie villager you can't even spawn on Peaceful. Meanwhile a Wandering Trader shows up outside your door every other night, uninvited, selling you dyed wool nobody asked for. Wandering Villager is a Minecraft Bedrock Edition addon that lets you hand one a contract and talk them into settling down for good.

How It Works

Craft a Settlement Contract from paper, an ink sac and a gold ingot, then use it on any Wandering Trader. He'll stop wandering and begin settling down — slowing to a halt in a cloud of green particles, accompanied by the same sound the golden apple makes when curing a zombie villager. Thirty seconds later he's a villager, permanently.

Keep him alive for those thirty seconds. If he dies before he's finished, the contract goes with him.

Features

  • Convert any Wandering Trader into a permanent, ordinary villager
  • Thirty second conversion you have to actively protect — deliberately modelled on curing a zombie villager, so it's earned rather than instant
  • Arrives unemployed — drop a job site block in front of him and he'll take up whatever profession you want
  • Biome-matched skin — convert in a desert and you get a desert villager, in a taiga you get a taiga villager
  • Llamas are freed — the trader's two leashed llamas become ordinary llamas rather than vanishing with him
  • Fully playable on Peaceful — no zombie villagers, no raids, no curing required
  • No existing villager needed — every ingredient is obtainable from scratch, which is rather the point
  • Survives saves and reloads — the conversion is data-driven, so logging out mid-transformation doesn't break it
  • Plays nicely with others — overrides only a single vanilla file
  • No Beta APIs or experimental toggles required

How to Install

  1. Download the .mcaddon file
  2. Double-click it to open with Minecraft
  3. Create or edit a world and add Wandering Villager under Behavior Packs
  4. The resource pack will be applied automatically

That's it — now go and find someone to talk into settling down.

Usage Tips

  • Wandering Traders spawn frequently and close to players, so you rarely have to go looking. The trader is the bottleneck, not the contract
  • The contract is consumed on use, so craft a few if you're planning a village from scratch
  • A settling trader won't trade with you — if you want his stock, buy it before you hand over the contract
  • Two villagers will breed given beds and food, so in practice you only need to do this once or twice
  • The conversion works in any dimension, though quite why you'd found a village in the Nether is your own business

Requirements

  • Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.26.0 or later
  • No experimental features required
