Overview

Here's the deal with Minecraft: your painstakingly engineered farm produces at an impressive rate of zero the moment you wander away. Chunks unload, pistons freeze, hoppers give up, and the whole thing takes a nap until you come back.

A chunk loader fixes most of that. Place one and the chunks around it stay loaded and ticking with nobody there, so redstone keeps clocking, crops and trees keep growing, and furnaces and sorters keep working. Each chunk loader has its own radius, from 3×3 chunks up to the server's limit, and Show area outlines exactly what's covered.

But mob farms have always been the catch: mobs only spawn near players, so a loaded farm with nobody around still produces nothing. Farm mode fixes that. Mark where your farm's mobs die (look at the spot, even through glass, and crouch), stay nearby while it runs, and after 10 minutes the chunk loader has learned your farm: which mobs, how fast, and how they die. While everyone's away it keeps producing those kills, rolling each one through the mob's real loot table and dropping the items exactly where your real drops appear, so your own collection system picks them up. Any mob farm works, faster farms produce more, and it can't be cheesed: fights near the farm and bred animals don't count, and an empty field produces nothing.

There's redstone control to pause a chunk loader, private labels only the owner and admins can see, purple particle effects, and owner protection. Admins get a full panel through /mygen:chunkloaders: every chunk loader in the world, switch any of them on or off from anywhere, change radii, set limits, switch them all off at once without losing anyone's settings, and delegate admin access to trusted players.

Version 2.0.0 rebuilds the whole add-on: learned farms replace the old farm types, every chunk loader gets its own radius, the menus are new and update live, and the old line-of-sight checks are gone.

Features

  • Keeps the chunks around it loaded and ticking with nobody there
  • Farm mode learns your real mob farm, then keeps it producing while you're away
  • Any mob farm works, and faster farms produce more
  • Produced drops use the mobs' real loot tables and appear where your real drops do
  • Can't be cheesed: only kills in your kill areas count, and bred animals don't
  • Each chunk loader has its own radius, up to the server's limit
  • Show area outlines the loaded chunks and kill areas
  • Redstone control: power a chunk loader to pause it
  • Private labels only the owner and admins can see
  • Purple particle effects and a working pulse
  • Owner protection: only the owner or admins can use or break it
  • Admin panel: manage every chunk loader from anywhere, set limits, switch them all off at once
  • Delegate admin access without giving out operator
  • No experimental toggles required

How to install

  1. Download the .mcaddon from CurseForge and open it with Minecraft to import both packs.
  2. Add the Bedrock Chunk Loader behavior pack to your world; its resource pack switches on with it.
  3. No experimental toggles are required.
  4. Craft a chunk loader: a redstone block in the middle, a diamond above, lapis lazuli below, and a resin clump and an amethyst shard either side. Or take one from the creative inventory under Equipment.
  5. Place it, use it to set its radius and farm mode, and use /mygen:chunkloaders for administration.

Changelog

  1. v2.0.0 Latest
    New
    • Learned farms: farm mode now learns your actual mob farm instead of making a chosen farm type's items out of thin air. Mark where the farm's mobs die (Add kill area, then look and crouch, even through glass) and stay nearby while it runs: after 10 minutes, the chunk loader keeps producing that farm's kills while everyone is away. Every kill is rolled through the mob's real loot table and the drops appear exactly where the farm's real drops appeared, so your own collection system picks them up. Any mob farm works, faster farms produce more, and fights near the farm don't count
    • Set each chunk loader's own radius from its menu, from 1 chunk up to the server's limit. Smaller loaders are kinder to the server
    • Show Area: outlines the chunks a chunk loader keeps loaded (and its kill areas), for 10 seconds, visible only to you
    • A Show label toggle in each chunk loader's menu hides or shows its label
    • Particle effects for placing, switching on and off, redstone pauses and breaking, and a slow purple pulse from working chunk loaders while you're nearby (admins can turn the pulse off with the new Ambient Effects setting)
    • Admins can switch on any chunk loader from the admin panel, wherever it is: an unloaded one is woken up for a moment instead of asking you to travel there first
    • Players who don't own a chunk loader are warned as soon as they start mining it, instead of after a few seconds of mining
    Changed
    • New menus built with Minecraft's data-driven forms. Everything is on one screen that updates live while it's open: switch a chunk loader on or off, set its radius and kill areas, and see redstone pauses and farm learning as they happen
    • Farm production no longer depends on the owner holding a Looting sword somewhere: it uses how the farm's mobs really died while it was learning, including Looting and player-only drops
    • Production pauses while drops are piling up (storage full or collection broken) instead of making more
    • New admin setting: the most farm kills an hour any one chunk loader produces
    • The admin panel picks a chunk loader from a dropdown and acts on it in place. Settings save as you change them, and administrators are granted from a dropdown of online players
    • Labels above chunk loaders are now drawn as text instead of name tags on hidden entities. Only the owner and admins can see them, and they're always hidden behind blocks (except with Vibrant Visuals, where the game still shows them through walls: MCPE-243723)
    • The admin Chunk Radius setting is now the largest radius owners can choose. Lowering it shrinks larger chunk loaders straight away, and each keeps its owner's choice for when the limit goes back up
    • Disable All no longer switches every chunk loader off: each owner's on/off choice is kept, and Enable All restarts exactly the ones that were on
    • Changing the radius limit or redstone control applies to existing chunk loaders straight away
    • Removed the line-of-sight checks that ran twice a second from every player to every chunk loader
    • Each chunk loader is saved separately, so there's no limit to how many a world can hold
    • Requires Minecraft 1.26.50 or newer
    Fixed
    • Chunk loaders at the same coordinates in different dimensions overwrote each other's data
    • A chunk loader paused by redstone showed as active again after a restart
    • A chunk loader whose entity went missing stopped loading chunks until it was replaced. Its entity is now put back automatically
    • Placing a chunk loader in creative while chunk loaders were disabled, or at your limit, gave you an extra one
    Upgrading from v1.4.0
    • Your chunk loaders, their owners and on/off states, and all settings are kept and moved over automatically the first time the world loads. The old Chunk Radius becomes the new radius limit
    • Farm types are gone. Chunk loaders that had one have farm mode switched on, but they produce nothing until they've learned their farm: add a kill area where its mobs die and stay nearby for 10 minutes while it runs
    • The old floating name tags are removed as each chunk loader's chunk loads

    Works with Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.50+
