Unknown Block Remover
A Minecraft Bedrock admin utility that automatically finds and removes orphaned blocks left behind when addons are uninstalled. When an addon is removed mid-world, its blocks don't disappear — they keep their original ID but have no definition, showing up as question marks. This addon cleans them up.

The Problem
When you remove an addon from a world that already has its blocks placed, those blocks don't become air — they stay exactly where they are with their original namespace and ID (e.g. myaddon:myblock), but with no block definition to render them. Minecraft displays them as question mark blocks. They're harmless but ugly, and they accumulate fast if you've been testing addons or cleaning up a server.
Unknown Block Remover lets you scan for these orphaned blocks, identify which addon they came from by namespace, and automatically remove them.
Features
- Namespace discovery scan — scans the area around you and detects all non-minecraft block namespaces present, identifying which addons left blocks behind
- Persistent discovery list — discovered namespaces are saved per-player and survive world reloads and rejoins
- Multi-namespace targeting — toggle each discovered namespace on or off independently; multiple namespaces are cleaned up in a single scan pass
- Configurable scan interval — 5 to 60 seconds in 5-second steps
- Configurable scan radius — 8 to 64 blocks in 8-block steps
- Correct dimension bounds — respects Overworld (-64–320), Nether (0–127), and End (0–255) Y limits
- Action bar feedback — subtle pulse indicator each time the scan fires
- Per-player settings — scanning only runs around players who have enabled it; no impact on other players
- Admin-only — all controls require GameDirectors permission; cheats do not need to be enabled
- Clear list option — reset the discovered namespace list with a confirmation screen
Installation
- Download the
.mcpackfile - Open it with Minecraft to import automatically
- Create or edit a world and add the Unknown Block Remover Behavior Pack
- No Beta APIs required
Usage
Commands
| Command | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|
/ubr:open | GameDirectors | Opens the Unknown Block Remover panel |
Step 1 — Discover
Stand near the unknown (question mark) blocks and open /ubr:open. Tap Scan for Unknown Blocks. The addon scans a 32-block radius around you and records every non-minecraft namespace it finds. You'll see a count of how many were found. Run the scan in multiple areas to build up the full list — results are cumulative.
Step 2 — Configure
Tap Configure to open the settings screen. Each discovered namespace appears as a toggle — enable the ones you want to remove. Set your preferred scan interval and radius, then toggle Scan and remove blocks automatically on.
Step 3 — Done
The addon will now periodically scan the area around you and replace any block matching a selected namespace with air. A brief action bar message confirms each scan. When all the orphaned blocks are gone, simply disable scanning or clear the list.
Settings
| Setting | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Namespace toggles | On / Off | Off | Which discovered addon namespaces to target |
| Enable scanning | On / Off | Off | Master toggle for the periodic scan |
| Scan interval | 5s – 60s (5s steps) | 5s | How often the scan runs |
| Scan radius | 8 – 64 blocks (8-block steps) | 16 | How far from the player to scan |
Notes
- Settings and the discovered namespace list are stored per-player as dynamic properties. Each admin maintains their own independent configuration.
- The scan uses Minecraft's native
BlockFilterfor namespace matching, so only non-air blocks are iterated — vanilla blocks are not affected. - Scanning runs only in the dimension the player is currently in, with correct Y bounds per dimension.
